Learn how to knit a seamless sweater from the top down!
Over the past few years, we’ve seen a steady rise in this type of sweater construction, and for good reason: it looks amazing, it’s comfortable to knit and, once you understand how it works, surprisingly straightforward.
At first, the construction might look a little confusing, but with the right guidance it becomes much easier than you think. And that’s where I come in!
What we’ll work on:
• Understanding the top-down construction :We’ll go through the entire process step by step, so you can clearly understand how a sweater grows from the neckline and shoulders all the way down to the hem.
• Creating a beautiful drop-back shoulder: You’ll learn how to shape a drop-back shoulder and create the look of a classic set-in sleeve while working seamlessly from the top down.
• Flat knitting + knitting in the round: We’ll combine the two techniques, but don’t worry: only a small part is worked flat. Once everything is joined, we’ll continue in the round, your favorite!
• No short rows, no seaming! For this construction, you won’t need to worry about short rows, and there’s absolutely no seaming at the end.
• Let’s make a mini-sweater: During our three-hour session, we’ll work together on a mini version of the sweater. This will allow you to see every step of the construction in action and understand exactly how all the different sections come together.
• A full pattern to try at home: You’ll also receive a complete sweater pattern using the same construction and rules we explore in class. This means that once you’ve practised on your mini-sweater, you’ll be able to use what you’ve learned to knit a full-size sweater at home.
No previous sweater-knitting experience is required.
By the end of the class, you’ll not only understand how this construction works, but you’ll also have the tools and a complete pattern to try it yourself. What might look complicated at first will soon feel logical, intuitive and, most importantly, fun to knit!
