Class Details:

This workshop is for anyone who wants to knit better fitting sweaters! First, you’ll learn how to take accurate body measurements and create a personal schematic. Using a pattern of your choosing, you’ll learn how to extract useful information from patterns to create a template for customizing the fit to your body. You’ll then learn how to add your desired waist shaping to your pattern. This includes creating shaping to accommodate curvier bodies, customizing fit for bellies and hips. Time permitting, we’ll discuss alternative approaches to waist shaping, and removing extra fabric with back shaping.

Bring a sweater pattern of your choosing to modify in class. The sweater body should be knit in plain stockinette stitch (texture on the yoke, sleeves, and cuffs is fine) for the purposes of this class. You’ll be able to extrapolate what you learn in class for textured sweaters as well.

Homework:
None
Supplies to Bring:

• A copy of a sweater pattern with a stockinette body that you’d like to knit
• Pen and paper, or something to take notes with
• A swatch in the yarn you’d like to use to make the sweater
• If you’d like to do this purely as a learning exercise, you can a small amount of appropriate yarn from your stash
• If you plan to actually make the sweater, please swatch with the yarn you plan to use!
• A tape measure

Please wear a closer fitting shirt (it can be under other garments) so we can take accurate measurements in class

Reminder: Please print any handout(s) prior to class and bring it with you.
