Class Details:

Learn how to fix your own clothes in a low pressure, hands-on class. You’ll be working on your own socks during the class, so you will learn how to darn and leave with mended sock. We’ll be focusing on visible mending, so there is space to play with colors and patterns. Sock darning is a great place to start because no one will see your mistakes! Bring a clean sock to darn so your can learn while you fix your sock. For your first sock, please don’t bring a sock that has a hole bigger than a quarter. It’s better to learn on a small hole rather than a blown out heel. Bring a couple of socks if you aren't sure about the size. You’ll learn how to improvise a darning “egg” with a number of household objects. Darning is beautifully low-tech and all that is really needed is a tapestry needle and yarn/thread.

Homework:

None

Supplies to Bring:

A clean sock to mend, with a hole no bigger than a quarter. It doesn't need to have a hole--we can also darn socks that are worn thin. A metal tapestry needle, pair of scissors, fingering or sock weight yarn scraps, and a darning form.
Darning forms I recommend: a wide-mouth canning jar ring w/ rubber band, wiffle ball, orange, darning mushroom or egg. Other options are welcome!
